About us

Cobs 'n' Plods is a family business now in it's 6th year of trading.

Both Tom and Liz both come from farming families whose parents and grandparents all kept and worked with horses.

Liz has rode from an early age and always had a passion for show jumping, some of her early wins including HOYS and Hickstead. More recently Liz has been producing young sports horses and was placed at Burnley in the Burnley Young Event Horse series.

Tom show jumped from an early age and also diversified into showing, mainly in working hunter classes, and showing their home bred Irish draught horses at county level.

Bethany (15yrs) is show jumping and more recently started some dressage hoping to start some one-day events on our home produced ponies.  Amy (5yrs) and Molly (2yrs) are both riding at PC, and during the winter you will see the whole family hunting weekly all over the country with various pacts of hounds.

The horses we sell are mostly gypsy cob and cob crosses with a lot being imported from Ireland. We use these horses as we find they are most suited for the jobs we require.  They generally have a cool and sensible manner but have the adaptability to turn their hoof to most things.

Our cobs are currently being used in various riding schools and colleges, in the UK and we have even started supplying a riding school in Dubai. We had a horse take part in a “Round the World” ride and another starring in Coronation Street. When at Cobs ‘n’ Plods our basic requirement are for the horses to work around the arena and pop a small fence, to ride in traffic and to hack in open country alone and in company.

Some of our horses go on to do greater things and many a superstar has been discovered in its early days. We are lucky enough to be able to earn a living from doing something we love. Our horses are not just our work, they are our passion and while they are with us they are treated and enjoyed as our own.
